It does not look like a problem with amavisd or sendmail etc.
As you say you company has updated the virus scanner on all windows
clients....
Perhaps that's the problem. By Symantec I've found an knowledgebase
articel with
the same error.

Could it be that your new antivirus solution has an build in firewall?
Perhaps that's the reason.
