You are also using Perl 5.8.0 - you are pushing your luck.
5.8.2 or later would be better.

These timeout locations are not indicating an obvious problem,
could be just random locations, happining due to a general
system overload, or perhaps are result of some other child process
getting into a cpu-busy state for some reason.

Try running amavisd-nanny one in a while (interactiovely),
it may have something to report.

Could well be too high. Try halving the number of processes
just to see how it affects your system throughput.
Could also be due to some early Perl utf8 bug - upgrade the Perl.
