Creating a Virtual Host
In this section you will have the ability to create a Virtual
Host, also known as a Virtual Server. Creating a Virtual
Host through this method will be for hosting a Web site and will
not affect any other virtual hosts. You must fill in all the required
fields. A description of each field is listed below.
- Address
- Here you can enter the IP address of your new virtual host.
You are allowed to have multiple virtual hosts on one IP address.
The main reason to do this is so you can host many sites without the
need to register more IP addresses. The Web server will know how to
differentiate between the different virtual hosts when they are requested.
- Administrator E-Mail
- This will be the default e-mail address that
will be displayed to a user who receives an error. Setting this to
the owner and/or system administrator of the virtual host is recommended.
- Server Name
- This will be the name of the server.
Enter in a valid FQDN.
- Webmaster
- This is the user who will own all of the files for this
Web site. You can choose a user by clicking on ``...'' or you
can type an existing user name in this box.
- Group
- This is the group that will have access to all of the files
for this Web site. You can select an existing group by clicking on
``...'' or you can type an existing group name in this box.
If you wish to create a new group, click on the Create Group
button and create a new group. You can then select this new group
using the group chooser by clicking on ``...''.
- Create a database for this site
- If this box is checked, a database
will be created for use with this site. You must enter a user name
and password for accessing the database below.
- Username
- If you wish to create a database for this site, this will
be the username associated with accessing the database which is created.
An example username is dbadmin.
- Password
- If you chose to create a database for this site, this will
be the password associated with accessing the database which is created.
An example password is gu@rd1@n.
You can now click the Create button to create the virtual host.
After some processing you will be returned to the Virtual Servers
main menu. You will see the new virtual host
you created in the Virtual Servers list. If you created a new
IP address or a new domain name for this virtual host you will have
to add it to your DNS servers. Details on this are later in this section.
After the host is created you will now have the ability to edit that
host.
