Windows XP does not include a graphical utility such as the 'Routing
and Remote Access' that Windows 2000 includes. Instead a default route
will be created for the VPN traffic to be routed through.
- From the Start Menu select Settings, Network Connections,
Local Area Connection.
- Right click on Local Area Connection and select Properties.
- The Local Area Connection Properties window will appear. From here
select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then click Properties.
- The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window will appear.
From here click the Advanced button.
- Next the Advanced TCP/IP Settings window will appear. Our goal is
to add a new default gateway so below the Default Gateway list-box
click the Add button.
- Once the TCP/IP Gateway Address window appears enter the IP
Address of the Gateway machine. This will be the IP Address of the
Guardian Digital VPN Server.
- After entering in the IP Address make certain the check-box for Automatic
metric is not set and enter 1 into the Metric
entry box.
- Once all changes have been made click Add.
- The Advanced TCP/IP Settings window will be updated with the
changes that were just made.
- Click OK.
- The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window will appear.
- Click OK.
- Lastly the Local Area Connection Properties window will appear.
- Click Close.
- The default route has now been configured.
