Configure Permissions

When a new group is created that group has no permissions and thus members of that group will have no permissions. If a user in that group attempts to login with no permissions that user will be logged off the system immediately.

Each group/user has a set of permissions that is associated to a module and the components within the module. Permissions need to be configured correctly so each group/user can access different aspects of the WebShare Manager system. Each created group will need a default set of permissions to assign to users whom will be added to the group. To access the permissions administrative interface click Admin from the navigation bar and select Rights Manager.

The Rights Manager may appear large and cumbersome at first but is quite easy to work. Each module in the WebShare Manager system is listed in a tree structure on the left side. Each type of permission for that module can be found by clicking on the module or component of the module.

By clicking on the permission type, the permissions for that item can be viewed and changed.

For this scenario we want 'sales', 'engineering' and 'management' to have full access to the 'Overview' module. However, we also want to give 'management' the ability to the 'Image of the Day' functionality.

To accomplish this click on Overview in the left tree menu and select Access Module. By default the 'Admin' and 'users' groups will be allowed access. Listed on the right will be the three new groups. Select a group and click the '<-<-' button to add it to the 'Allow' list allowing that group access. Once all the groups have been added click Save changes.

Lastly we want to give the 'management' group the ability to use the 'Image of the Day' features. To do this click on the Image of the Day component of the Overview section. There are four options here. These options are fairly common among all the modules and are fairly self explanatory. In this situation we want to give the 'management' group access to everything. So go to each field and add the 'management' group to the Allow box for each one.

Continue doing this for each module you wish to delegate permissions to. Remember, by default a new group has permissions to nothing. So if permissions are not configured, there are none for that group/user.
